Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Facilities and Fleet Director, the Sr. Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, care and efficient operation of all equipment, fleet and facilities of Houston SPCA campus. Commercial maintenance background with emphasis on HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing is preferred.

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Assist in maintaining HVAC systems. 
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing MEP systems.
  • Assist with any other small engine and equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in supervising facilities team.
  • Assist in maintaining fleet including trailers, boats, and other emergency equipment.
  • Carpentry, door hardware, sheetrock repair and painting experience helpful. 
  • Assist in keeping maintenance shop and other areas clean and organized. 
  • Ensure assigned facilities and equipment are ready for regular business and special events.
  • Maintain the inventory, storage, and distribution of equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies which includes disaster response.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily workflow, scheduling, and assignments of the equipment and facilities team.
  • Provide lead support to the Facilities and Fleet Director in their absence.

 

Knowledge, skill and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • High School Diploma, GED or vocational school education. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience required.
  • Ability to work around animals including various livestock.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physically strenuous tasks, stand for long periods, climb ladders and work from high places, and bend, stoop, reach, lift and move at least fifty (50) pounds. 
  • Skill and manual dexterity to operate various tools and equipment safely and proficiently. 
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and grounds upkeep methods, materials, and equipment, as well as safety regulations and precautions related to work performed. 
  • Ability to work weekends, a flexible schedule, to include after-hours with resulting return to duty. 
  • Working conditions both inside and outside with exposure to heat, cold and adverse weather. 
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, darkness or poor lighting conditions, trenches, and/or isolation. 
  • Must professionally represent the Houston SPCA in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff. 
  • Protect all confidential information, including information concerning donors, clients, animals, coworkers, and other external/internal parties.
  • Passion for the mission of the Houston SPCA.
